Crews battle wildfires in San Jose on July 4

SAN JOSE – Firefighters were dispatched to two wildfires Thursday night in San Jose.

The first fire was reported around 8:40 p.m. in a vacant lot near State Street and Pacific Avenue, according to the San Jose Fire Department. Firefighters contained the blaze to two acres.

No injuries were reported.

Traffic was disrupted by the incident and authorities asked people to avoid the area.

A second vegetation fire was reported shortly before 10 p.m. in the 800 block of Foothill Court, east of Almaden Lake Park. No structures were threatened, but traffic was affected on Coleman Avenue, between Almaden Expressway and Santa Teresa Boulevard.

Elsewhere in Northern California, crews worked to control the Thompson Fire. The 3,789-acre blaze in the Oroville Dam area has forced the evacuation of 28,000 people.

Crews also had their hands full battling the French Fire in Mariposa. The blaze had burned 400 acres and was 0% contained as of Thursday night, according to Cal Fire.
