Crews were called to the 8100 block of Arlington Avenue in Upper Darby shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday for a duplex on fire.

Numerous calls were received and police said the fire was “doing well.” Officers then began evacuating other residences on the block.

According to fire department radio traffic:

First crews reported a galley fire with extension to the aft deck and tripping wires.

Crews were informed that all residents had left the duplex, which subsequent searches confirmed.

The crews asked PECO to cut off the power supply to the block. There were moments of anxiety regarding live wires.

“I can hear the wires here crackling a little on the block,” one transmission said.

The flames quickly spread to the other side of the duplex.

“The rear of the property is well-off. You involved bridges and vehicles. It will be inaccessible until PECO gets here,” was another transmission.

Around 4:15 a.m., a second alarm sounded. Then another alarm about 15 minutes later.

After 20 minutes of the incident, three lines were in service and most of the fire was “put out.”

Official details were not yet available.
