Crews are working to contain a small brush fire that broke out shortly after noon Saturday in Livermore, just north of Interstate 580.

The 41-acre Greenville Fire was 60% contained as of 2 p.m. Saturday. Firefighters were making good progress and progress had stopped, according to a Cal Fire social media post.

The fire broke out a few miles west of where the Corral Fire burned 14,168 acres last week, southwest of Tracy and near Site 300 of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. This fire was finally declared under control on Thursday. The cause of this fire remains under investigation.

Both fires broke out near Altamont Pass, a site prone to frequent brush fires, due to strong winds that gain speed as they thread through the narrow canyon.
