Crews battle 2,000-acre bushfire in Gorman – Daily News

GORMAN — A large brush fire broke out Saturday in Gorman in northern Los Angeles County, burning at least 2,012 acres and triggering an evacuation order.

The fire was reported around 1:45 p.m. at Ralph's Ranch and Gorman School roads near the Golden State (5) Freeway, Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman Chris Little said. , at City News Service. As of 2:40 p.m., the Post Fire was measured at 500 acres. Cal Fire, on its website, later said it was measured at 2,012 acres without containment.

The fire threatened structures and evacuations were ordered.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Santa Clarita Valley Station said on social media that evacuations were in place for the Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area, Pyramid Lake, Gorman Post Road and surrounding areas .

County firefighters were also battling a small brush fire that broke out around 12:30 p.m. at Sierra Highway and Johnnie Drive in Agua Dulce, he said.

Resources are being sent to both fires, Little said.

The Los Angeles Fire Department also sent one of its helicopters to assist county firefighters, according to spokesman Brian Humphrey.

Saturday's high temperature in Gorman was 80 degrees, according to the National Weather Service, but strong winds were forecast for the northern part of the county. Gusts of 45 mph were expected Saturday in the Santa Clarita Valley.
