Crew member missing at sea during round-the-world cruise

A crew member on a 120-day trip around the world goes missing at sea.

The Ambience ship of the Ambassador Cruise Line was on its last voyage from Lisbon, Portugal returned to the UK when the crew member went missing.

In a statement to Sky News, the British cruise line said Ambience initially turned around to “retrace its route to the vessel's position when the crew member was last seen.”

However, it has since been “released from search by coastguard authorities” and is “continuing its original route to the UK”.

According to the statement, the crew member, originally from India, was reported missing “shortly after breakfast” this morning while the ship was off Cape Finisterre, on the west coast of the island. Spain.

An extensive ship-wide search was carried out for the person, who has not been named, and the local coastguard was informed.

The mood had left Tilbury, Essex on January 6 and is expected to return to port on Sunday.

The ambassador confirmed that his arrival time, initially scheduled for 9 a.m., will be postponed until the evening.

All events marking his return have also been canceled.

“Our immediate priority is to provide full support to all crew members closely affected by this incident,” the ambassador said.

“Guests on board were kept informed throughout the day and were informed of recent developments.

“The Ambassador remains committed to the safety and well-being of all our crew and guests. We are deeply saddened by this incident and our thoughts and prayers are with our colleague's friends and family during this difficult time .”

British cruise line Ambassador is headquartered in Purfleet, Essex, and its home port is nearby Tilbury.

The 800-foot-long Ambience is its flagship ship and can carry 1,400 guests in its 789 cabins.

Stops on her 120-day Grand Round The World Cruise voyage included New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and Brazil.
