Cresson shooting victim identified – FOX8

We have details on the victim of the fatal shooting in Cambria County. The victim's girlfriend speaks out.

Ambrose Bowers was the man who died in last Sunday's shooting in Cresson and his girlfriend Kailey Lamer told FOX 8 the last thing she said to him was “I'll see you in a few minutes.” That was after Bowers left the Shovel Head Tavern, where Lamer is a bartender. Lamer said she tried to contact Bowers to stop at the store before coming to the bar, but he didn't receive the message until he arrived at the bar around 11:30 p.m.

Police said that at the bar, Bowers got into a conversation with Douglas Leap, who asked another customer to join him outside, with the customer refusing several times. Just before midnight, Bowers was going to run to the store and back to the bar. Lamer says that shortly afterward, she learned that a man had been shot just down the street from the bar and died in the road.

Lamer said she got down on her knees when she was told it was Bowers and then said goodbye to him at the scene. Lamer said, “I was running on the sidewalk and I was looking at my feet as I was running and I looked up and I saw him…I fell to the ground again and I screamed.” Everything that happened in the bar was quiet and it was never going to be what I thought the outcome would be.

Douglas Leap, who was at the bar that night, faces a homicide charge in the death of Ambrose Bowers and is due in court next week.
