Initial messages from California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 4 – Oakland stated: “All lanes are still blocked due to a collision, but crews are working on the incident on WB-580 just ahead. east of the middle span of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. Lane 2 should open soon.”

An update followed, stating: “Lane #2 is now open on WB I-580 on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge as of 3:35 p.m. Sunday. Lane No. 1 remains blocked.

Finally, the department reported, “All lanes are open on WB I-580 on the bridge as of 3:48 p.m. Sunday. »

While stuck in traffic, several people took to social media to share images and videos of the situation.

“Hey anyone heading to San Rafael via the San Rafael Bridge from Oakland, the bridge is closed to traffic all the way to El Cerrito,” one person wrote on Facebook.

Another person wrote: “They need to get rid of this stupid bike lane on the bridge. We would never leave her stuck on the bridge. »

Sunday's crash follows a similar incident on May 30, where a crash on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge resulted in both westbound lanes being blocked, involving at least two vehicles.
