Court says deported woman allegedly stole identity to travel abroad | News

A 38-year-old woman from Sainte-Catherine, accused of stealing the identity of another woman in order to obtain several documents, was reportedly planning to travel abroad.

The revelation was made during Taneicia Reid's appearance in St. Catherine Parish Court on Friday. She is due back on July 12.

Reid, a laborer from Spanish Town, is charged with forgery, conspiracy to commit forgery, obtaining a passport by false documents and making a false statement.

During the hearing, Senior Judge Desiree Alleyne indicated her intention to expedite the court proceedings.

However, the defense informed the court that Reid had retained a new legal representative and needed time to review the leaked documents.

The judge agreed that another date was necessary to facilitate this process.

The court heard that Reid, who was deported to Jamaica, allegedly intended to use a false identity to secure his passage abroad.

It is alleged that the original owner of the biological data applied to the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency to do business, but was informed that someone else held the information.

The complainant, who was from St Elizabeth, then went to a tax office, where it was revealed that a tax registration number, a driving license and a passport with someone's photo other already existed.

Police were contacted and Reid was charged following an investigation.
