Couple arrested for child neglect leading to death

A Rockville, Indiana couple was arrested for infant neglect resulting in death. Indiana State Police announced the arrests of 18-year-old Ashlynn G. Casey and 24-year-old Jordan Washington on Friday (May 24, 2024).

Indiana State Police were contacted by the Vermillion County, Indiana Coroner's Office on May 17.th regarding a deceased 3-month-old infant who was taken to Union Health Hospital in Clinton, Indiana. State police said the infant was taken to the hospital by Casey and Washington, the baby's parents.

During the investigation, state police said they discovered the death occurred in Rockville, Parke County. On May 20, 2024, the results of an autopsy determined that the infant's death was due to malnutrition, according to a news release from the Indiana State Police.

After conducting several interviews and executing a search warrant, Casey and Washington were both arrested on a Parke County warrant for neglect of a dependent resulting in death. Both were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Putnam County Jail. State police note that all criminal defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The investigation is ongoing. The investigation is being conducted by the Indiana State Police, the Parke County Prosecutor's Office, the Rockville Police Department and the Parke County Coroner's Office.
