Coroner: Johnstown teen dies after pool incident Sunday | Cambria County

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – A Johnstown teenager died two days after being pulled from a hotel pool, investigators said.

Tahjmir Seeney, 18, was at the Holiday Inn Johnstown-Downtown on Sunday with relatives from out of town to celebrate his graduation from Greater Johnstown High School, Cambria County Coroner Jeff said Lees.

The family was swimming together when a relative noticed Seeney going down to the bottom of the pool, Lees said.

He said the tragic incident happened shortly before noon on Sunday.

A bystander performed CPR before firefighters responded and took over, and Seeney was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, but succumbed at 10:49 a.m. Tuesday, Lees said.

Greater Johnstown School District Superintendent Amy Arcurio said the entire district was heartbroken Tuesday.

She described Seeney as a great young man with a bright future ahead of him. He completed his classes and training through the school's welding program and already had a job lined up when the incident occurred.

“He was loved by so many people,” Arcurio said. “His family is in our hearts and prayers as we provide them with as much support as possible today…during this tragic time.”

The cause and manner of Seeney's death have not yet been determined, but Lees said the death is not being considered suspicious.

An autopsy is planned for later this week, Lees said.

He said Seeney's family was still finalizing funeral arrangements Tuesday.
