Cops identify another benami property of Atiq

Prayagraj police have identified another benami property of murdered mafia politician Atiq Ahmed. Property in Lukerganj area is estimated to be approx. ₹1 crore and was purchased in the name of another person.

Although many of Atiq's properties in Prayagraj and elsewhere have been attached, a large portion remains to be identified. The police are facing difficulties in identifying them as they belong to the murdered mafia politician.

Police officials said the documents of the property in Lukerganj were under scanner and would soon be attached under the Gangsters Act.

The property in the Lukerganj area was reportedly purchased for ₹70 million. However, its current cost is estimated at more ₹1 billion. Although the police have information that the apartment belonged to Atiq, it remains to be confirmed in whose name it was purchased and who currently owns it.

A few years ago, the administration vacated a large land illegally grabbed by Atiq and constructed apartments for poor families in the Lukerganj area.

The campaign to seize and demolish properties and buildings belonging to Atiq was launched in 2020. Even after Atiq and his brother Khalid Azeem alias Ashraf were shot dead at Colvin Hospital on April 15, 2023, the police were still digging his illegally acquired properties.

A few months ago, police seized a sprawling house worth several crores belonging to Atiq in Noida. In addition, the value of goods ₹12 crore that Atiq had purchased in the name of a Hublal mason was also seized by the police.
