Construction continues on the Guntry Building in The Highlands. Recruiting is underway for the shooting range, which company president Rick Landsman plans to open in October.

TRIADELPHIA — Construction of a high-caliber shooting range in The Highlands is on schedule and on schedule for a grand opening this fall, according to Guntry President Rick Landsman.

Hiring for the new firearms and shooting training center is scheduled to begin this month, with those selected for leadership positions heading to Guntry's main operations in Owings Mills, Maryland.

Guntry plans to hire 25 to 30 employees, Landsman reported.

“They are still working on the building and they will put the ceilings on the stands this week,” he said. “Caps are concrete covers on shooting ranges so bullets don't escape.

“They will start closing the building soon. We are aiming for an opening date of October 1st.

Landsman noted that thanks to a mild winter in the region this year, contractors were able to continue construction.

“Now we need to start the recruitment process,” he continued. “We have already started hiring senior management and we will recruit core employees by next month.”

The recruited senior managers will travel to Owings Mills for training and will be required to instruct and train new employees at The Highlands location in the company's procedures and computer system.

“We are concerned,” Landsman said. “But so far I've only heard good reviews about what's happening in the Highlands. I come every week to check.

Once completed, Guntry will offer 25 and 100 meter shooting lanes in a climate-controlled environment with appropriate ventilation systems. It will also include a 340-degree interactive simulator and a training room that can accommodate 80 people to assist in law enforcement training. Guntry will have instructors offering tactical and beginner courses for law enforcement.

Additionally, Guntry will not be limited to the use of firearms, as the facility will include an archery class.
