NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — The search continues for Asata Amun, 16, of Atlanta, who went missing on February 1 and has not been seen or heard from since.

Her mother, Jasmine Dominique, 41, now resides in Connecticut and told News 8 that her “free-spirited, tomboyish” daughter once ran away. Amun, who lives with her father and Dominique's ex-husband, Kwabena Amun, in Atlanta, has already contacted her mother for help.

“She called me and she said, 'please come and get me.' I don't want to live with him,” Dominique said. “This time she didn't call me, she didn't text me, she didn't do anything.”

Kwabena, who Dominique describes as violent, has been divorced from Asata's mother since 2019. Kwabena reported the child missing after her video doorbell recorded her fleeing her home.

Kwabena told WSB-TV that Asata had disciplinary problems and left after mentioning being sent to a military academy.

“As a mother, it's hard for me because I can't really sleep,” Dominique said. “I can’t stop thinking about it and I can’t do anything because I’m here.”

Atlanta police say it's extremely unusual that no one has heard from Amon in three months. A search warrant has been issued for his father's home and an investigation is underway.
