Company releases conceptual renderings for Royals stadium near state line

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City Royals stadium “where home runs can be hit interstate?”

That's what MANICA Architecture, a Kansas City-based firm, envisions in conceptual renderings released for a new Royals stadium.

In renderings released Wednesday evening, the stadium is placed near the West Bottoms and near the Kansas River.

It is adjacent to Interstate 670 and State Line Road.

Conceptual renderings for Royals stadium

The renderings come as the Kansas Legislature has made an aggressive effort to lure the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals across the state line, passing a bill to explore the use of STAR bonds for stadium projects for teams.

When asked if MANICA had consulted with Kansas legislators or the Royals, David Manica, president and owner of MANICA, said the renderings were “conceptual and visionary in intent.”

Manica said the concept stadium honors the dimensions of the playing field at Kauffman Stadium, where the Royals currently play.

The renderings envision “a vibrant mixed-use outdoor neighborhood with bars, restaurants, beer gardens, rooftop terraces, watch parties and more.”

Below are other features of the stadium concept renderings:

  • The Kansas-Missouri state line is uniquely aligned with the right field fence, where home runs can be hit interstate.
  • The orientation of the baseball stadium frames the downtown Kansas City, Missouri, skyline
  • The proposal would include provisions for hotels, offices and residential lofts.
  • Improved riverfront with recreational activities, landscaping and pedestrian promenade.
  • The design incorporates two of the most iconic aspects of Kauffman Stadium today, with the water fountains in the outfield and the iconic crown on the scoreboard.
