Fire and ice don't usually mix, but at this community event in North Long Beach, the combination makes for a fun time.

The Long Beach community has the opportunity to connect with firefighters from Long Beach Fire Station 12 for the second annual “Fire and Ice” event this weekend.

The event is hosted by Councilor Joni Ricks-Oddie, who represents the Ninth District where Station 12 is located, and aims to be a way for children and adults to connect with their local fire department and enjoy cold treats, like ice cream.

The inaugural “Fire and Ice” event was held last year, during which participants toured the fire station and met Fire Chief Dennis Buchanan.

“I am excited to invite you to our exciting Fire and Ice event,” Ricks-Oddie said in a statement, “a unique opportunity to connect with your community and enjoy a day filled with fun activities for everyone. ages.”

The free, family-friendly event will take place on Saturday, June 22, from noon to 2 p.m., at Station 12, 1199 Artesia Boulevard.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet firefighters, tour the state-of-the-art station, learn about the critical work first responders do to keep the community safe, and gain insight into their daily routines and challenges.

There will also be interactive demonstrations of fire safety techniques and equipment, other activities and entertainment and, of course, cold treats offered throughout the event.

Free parking will also be available and entry will be via Orange Avenue.

“The Fire and Ice event is a wonderful opportunity to learn about fire safety, engage with your neighbors and spend quality time with family and friends,” Ricks-Oddie said. “Don’t miss this special day. We look forward to seeing you there and sharing the community spirit that makes District 9 such a special place to live.
