Columbus police briefing on officer shooting, killing Noel Hernandez

Columbus police are holding a news conference at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday to discuss an incident in which officers shot and killed a man who police say was armed with a knife.

Unidentified officers fatally shot Noel Hernandez, 35, around 11:15 p.m. Monday after officers responded to a report of a man armed with a knife in the area of ​​Georgesville Road.

Officers arrived and found Hernandez standing in front of an SUV in traffic with a bladed weapon, according to a statement released Tuesday morning by Columbus police. He ignored commands in Spanish and English to show his hands and dropped the gun, then got into his vehicle and drove away, police said.
