DENVER (KDVR) — Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office deputies are wearing cowboy hats again for the first time in decades.

Deputies will be allowed to wear them while on patrol, which has not been an option for them since the late 1970s and early 1980s. according to a message from the sheriff's office.

For the first time in decades, deputies are allowed to wear these hats while on patrol. The last time MPs had the opportunity to wear them was in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Deputies who wish to wear the hats must purchase their own. The sheriff's office said the hat was a black wool Stetson from the Stallion collection, which starts at around $140 on Amazon.

“Sheriff Brown approved the hats and several deputies adopted the new look,” the sheriff's office said.

The Boulder County Sheriff's Office also reintroduced cowboy hats “with a classic rancher crease” on their uniforms earlier this year.
