Colombia man sentenced to federal prison on gun charges

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) – A 35-year-old man was sentenced to more than 8 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to felony possession of a firearm and ammunition, the DOJ said.

Evidence presented in court showed that on May 5, 2021, officers with the Columbia Police Department arrested Deandre Lamar Davis on outstanding arrest warrants for kidnapping and domestic violence.

The agents say A loaded 9mm pistol was found hidden in Davis' waistband with approximately 2.8 grams of crack cocaine in his pants pocket.

This was the third time Davis was arrested while in illegal possession of a firearm or illegal drugs since 2020.

The DOJ says Davis had previous convictions for aggravated assault and battery, burglary, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, domestic violence, second degree, and battery, second degree.

At the time of the May 2021 incident, the DOJ said Davis was on state probation for his most recent battery conviction.

A U.S. district judge sentenced Davis to 100 months in prison, followed by three years of court-ordered supervision.
