Collin Holcomb arrested months after fatal fentanyl overdose

Police say they found evidence linking Collin Reed Holcomb, 34, to the alleged sale of fentanyl to Bradley Mitchell in the days before his death.

CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif. β€” A man was arrested in Citrus Heights Wednesday evening in connection with a fatal fentanyl overdose in February, authorities said.

The Citrus Heights Police Department said they began investigating after being called to the 7900 block of Madison Avenue on Feb. 15 around 4:45 p.m., where they found Bradley Mitchell, 33, unresponsive. Witnesses told police Mitchell likely overdosed.

Police say they found evidence linking Collin Reed Holcomb, 34, to the alleged sale of fentanyl to Mitchell in the days before his death. A search warrant was issued and police said they found Holcomb with a child in his Davis apartment along with “other illegal narcotics.”

Holcomb was booked into the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of murder, according to police. Police say child found in Holcomb apartment was taken into the care of Child Protective Services

β€œThe Citrus Heights Police Department and the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office are committed to taking a strong stance against those who poison our communities with fentanyl and will ensure that those responsible for these deadly acts are brought to justice quickly. and decisively,” said Wesley Herman. Citrus Heights Police Investigations Lt. in a news release.

This case could be one of the first in Sacramento County to result in a possible conviction of a suspected drug dealer in a death.
