Coast Guard rescues kayakers, including a child and a dog, near Bellingham

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Pacific Northwest rescued a group of people from their flooded kayaks near Bellingham on Sunday.

The USCG published an article about the rescue, stating that the group consisted of four adults, a child and a dog. The kayakers were northwest of Lummi Island when they called for help.

Crews reported that everyone, including the dog, was wearing a life jacket.

One of the rescued people activated his inReach device to alert search teams. An inReach is a device that uses satellites to communicate beyond cellular networks, according to the Garmin company website.

The Coast Guard also recommended using satellite messengers when telephone service is not available.

The Bellingham station transferred one person to emergency medical services, according to the USCG. The other people and the dog were taken to the Bellingham train station.
