NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard rescued four boaters Thursday after their vessel capsized near Dauphin Island, Alabama.

Coast Guard District Eight watchmen received a call around 1:50 p.m. from the Coast Guard National Command Center reporting an SOS signal coming from a satellite communicator. Observers were able to connect to the satellite communicator and communicate with one of the boaters who reported that the 28-foot catamaran he was on had capsized with four people on board. It appears that all the people were in the water and did not have any personal flotation devices.

The observers diverted the crew of an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans that was already in flight to the location of the stranded boaters and coordinated the launch of a crew 45-foot medium response boat from Coast Guard Station Dauphin Island to assist. Three MH-65 Dolphin mobile helicopter crews from the Coast Guard Aviation Training Center that were already flying for training also diverted to assist.

The crews arrived on scene, one of the crews from the Dolphin helicopter hoisted the 4 people on board and took them back to the aviation training center in Mobile, Alabama.

No injuries or deaths were reported.
