CMPD releases over 90 videos of officer shooting suspect

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have released more than 90 videos related to an officer-involved shooting in west Charlotte. It happened in February. Police were already monitoring the 2100 block of Beatties Ford Road in an effort to reduce ongoing crime. One of the surveillance cameras captured a man pulling a handgun from his waistband in a commercial parking lot. Police were dispatched to the scene, where video showed them trying to speak with the man seen with the gun. The man runs and removes the gun from his belt. The officer on scene fired a shot and the man fell to the ground.

CMPD provided a pre-recorded interview to news media, they did not respond to reporters' questions. Sgt. Steve Winterhalter states, “The individual's right arm and hand begin to turn towards the officers, at which point Officer Atwood fires one round, striking and he immediately falls to the ground. »

The suspect, Timothy Moore, 33, was transported to the hospital and treated. He is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, resisting an officer and carrying a concealed weapon. He has since been released from prison. The SBI is investigating the shooting.
