CANANDAIGUA — An investigator with the Ontario County Sheriff's Office received the Victor-Farmington Rotary Club's Law Enforcement Award last month.

In his June report, Sheriff David Cirencione said Inv. Dylan LaBrake was honored at the May 15 club meeting. LaBrake performed CPR and delivered a shock with his on-duty automated external defibrillator to save a 37-year-old man in cardiac arrest, and LaBrake also arrested a suspect responsible for more than $40,000 in thefts from Ulta Beauty in Victor.

Cirencione noted that his office’s annual “Law Day” ceremony and luncheon was held on May 17. More than three dozen members of the Sheriff's Office – law enforcement, corrections, jail medical staff, social workers, 911 personnel and office staff – received awards for their actions. heroism, bravery and exceptional service in the line of duty.

The Sheriff's Office held its second annual wreath-laying ceremony on May 13, honoring four members of the Sheriff's Office who died in the line of duty. Representatives from all four families attended the ceremony and received Purple Heart awards.

Cirencione also noted in his report that five county correctional officers graduated from Seneca County's 10-week basic corrections academy.

Cirencione reported the following statistics from the sheriff's office for the month of May:

The 911 Center handled 16,383 “events,” including 14,527 calls to the police. There were 1,436 calls to emergency medical services and 420 calls to the fire department.

Deputies and investigators made 113 arrests during the month.

Deputies responded to four calls regarding reported drug overdoses. Narcan was used in all cases.

Deputies responded to 263 motor vehicle crashes in the county during the month, with 41 resulting in injuries but no deaths. Deputies responded to 144 crashes causing property damage only and 78 car-deer collisions.

• Sheriff's deputies conducted 697 traffic stops in May and responded to 40 mental hygiene calls. Twelve people were charged with drunk driving.

• The Sheriff's Office K-9 unit received 27 calls last month, including drug searches, trails, public displays and assisting other agencies.

• Deputies processed seven firearms permit applications during the month.

• In May, 82 men and 55 women were admitted to the county jail, with an average daily inmate population of 105 people. Another 77 people were held at the jail for arraignment and 53 were released on their own recognizance.
