Cleveland woman charged in stabbing death of 3-year-old boy in North Olmsted – News-Herald

A 32-year-old Cleveland woman faces a murder charge in a June 3 stabbing that left a 3-year-old boy dead and his 38-year-old mother injured, according to a press release from the June 4 from North Olmsted police. Department. The incident happened in the parking lot of Giant Eagle, 27264 Lorain Road in North Olmsted.

Bionca Ellis was charged with aggravated murder in the death of Julian Wood of North Olmsted, according to the release.

Ellis was at the North Olmsted Jail awaiting his first appearance June 4 via video conference in Rocky River Municipal Court, according to the release.

Additional charges will be added once the case is presented to a Cuyahoga County grand jury, the release said.

On June 3 at 3:03 p.m., North Olmsted police dispatch began receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a black woman dressed in black was stabbing people in the Giant Eagle parking lot, according to the release.

Responding officers located Ellis walking toward Dover Center Road, still with the kitchen knife used in the attack, according to the release.

Ellis was arrested without resistance and transported to North Olmsted Jail.

Other officers attended to the two victims and began providing first aid.

Both victims were transported to St. John's University Hospital Medical Center in Westlake.

However, the boy died from his injuries, the statement said.

His mother was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery, according to the release.

The motive for the attack is not known, but everything we have learned so far indicates that it was a random act of violence, the statement said.

Ellis is known to the North Olmsted Police Department for a prior theft offense, but has no known violent criminal history, the release states.

North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones released a statement June 4 about the incident.

“First of all, I want to express my deepest condolences to the family of the 3-year-old boy who sadly passed away yesterday after being stabbed in a random attack at the North Olmsted Giant Eagle supermarket,” said Dailey Jones. . “This was a terrible tragedy for our entire community.

“As the mayor of North Olmsted and a mother myself, I cannot understand what this family must be going through. Losing their youngest child in such a violent and senseless way is absolutely heartbreaking. I know everyone in North Olmsted joins me in sharing their deep pain.

“We are all terribly sorry for their loss and I ask everyone to keep them in thought and prayer. Our police department continues to investigate the crime as we try to begin to heal and move forward.

“I commend all our security forces for their compassion and rapid response following this situation. The City will provide grief counseling to all of our employees who require these services. The safety of all our residents continues to be a top priority of my administration.
