Clementine the puppy is recovering from a stab wound

Clementine, a 2-month-old German Shepherd puppy, is recovering in the care of her foster mother, Chrissy Elder, after allegedly being stabbed by her former owner's girlfriend in early June.

Leslie Hernandez-Paredes was arrested on charges of animal cruelty and assault with a deadly weapon after an incident June 2 in the 1600 block of Fifth Avenue West in Gastonia.

According to police reports, Hernández-Paredes, 22, threw a knife at her boyfriend and stabbed Clementine before attempting to attack her mother.

She was arrested June 9 and charged with animal cruelty and misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon, although she had already posted $25,000 bail.

According to Elder, Clementine has a long road to recovery, both physically and emotionally.

“She’s 100 percent shy and has anxiety issues,” she said.

Elder has been a foster pet parent for over five years now and is the founder of Forgotten, Now Family Pet Rescue.

She stated that Clementine would remain in their custody permanently.
