As detailed by SIPRI,

“China is in the midst of a significant modernization and expansion of its nuclear arsenal. Its nuclear stockpile is expected to continue growing over the coming decade and some projections suggest it will deploy at least as many intercontinental ballistic missiles than Russia or the United States during this period, China's overall stock of nuclear warheads is expected to remain lower than that of either state.

Despite China's growing stocks, Russia and the United States still hold by far the largest quantity.

A holdover from the Cold War, the two countries have a combined arsenal of more than 8,000 nuclear warheads.

Including retirees and those earmarked for dismantling, this figure rises to more than 11,000.
