'Children are dangerous now': Father of teenager stabbed to death by two machete-wielding 12-year-old boys, says parents need to 'pay attention' to what their children do to stop more killings senseless

The father of a teenager stabbed to death by two machete-wielding 12-year-olds has said parents need to “be careful” about what their children do, warning “kids are dangerous now”.

Shawn Seesahai, 19, was brutally murdered by Britain's youngest knife killer in a machete attack in Birmingham on November 13 last year.

The youths, who were found guilty this afternoon, are believed to be the youngest child killers since Robert Thompson and Jon Venables, both aged 11, were convicted in 1993 of the murder of two-year-old James Bulger .

Shawn's devastated father Suresh called for more to be done to stop the senseless killings from happening.

He told Sky News: “You don’t know what these kids have. This world is a different world.

“Children are dangerous now and if we don’t pay attention to our children, this will happen every day.”

The stabbing victim's father Suresh (pictured today with his wife Manashwary) earlier told Sky News that parents had to “be careful” to stop further senseless killings.

The shocking clip comes as the 19-year-old's father, Suresh (pictured), warned “children are dangerous now”, after the two attackers, both aged 12, were found guilty this afternoon -noon.

Shawn's father said he felt sorry for the parents of his son's killers, but needed justice.

“They (the boys responsible) shouldn’t be locked up for life,” he said, “I just want it to be fair.”

Suresh added, “He has always been with me, right from his birth to growing up.

“Around the age of 16, he started working with me. Either way he knew I would need help [with] he would always be there for me.

Chilling CCTV footage shows Shawn walking towards a park minutes before he was murdered by 12-year-olds who cannot be named for legal reasons.

He can be seen leaving Handsworth, an area of Birmingham city centre, with two friends at around 5.30pm and boarding a tram at Winson Green station.

The group then gets off at Priestfield tram stop in Wolverhampton at 6.13pm and begins heading towards the park – where they will later meet the attackers.

At 6.34pm, Mr Seesahai and a friend then left the park to go to a local petrol station where store CCTV showed them looking at shelves of food.

The two men are then spotted returning to the park around 7:57 p.m., when grainy footage shows them standing in the area until at least 8:15 p.m. The attack itself is not caught on cameras video surveillance.

Mr Seesahai was originally from the Caribbean island of Anguilla but was staying in Birmingham while he recovered from cataract surgery.

The month-long trial at Nottingham Crown Court heard the two 12-year-olds acted together to kill Shawn after he “grazed them on the shoulder” by a bench.

He was kicked, stomped and “chopped” with a 42.5 cm long blade that one of the accused carried “often”.

One of the boys claimed he got the machete used in the murder from a “friend of a friend”, but police said there was evidence he had searched for knives online.

Shawn's friend told the trial he was forced to run for his life but Mr Seesahai, 19, tripped as he tried to run away from the boys at Stowlawn playing fields in Wolverhampton on November 13 last year.

The witness said: “It was a big blade, something that looked like a machete. He took it out of the sheath at his waist. Shawn told me to run.

The court heard they attacked the victim with such force that with one blow the machete almost went through his body.

Mr Seesahai was pronounced dead at 9.11pm on November 13 last year after police were called to the scene at 8.37pm. Prosecutor Michelle Heeley KC said the victim had “not shown any signs of of any violence and “had not done anything that could offend the two boys”.

A girl present at the scene with the youths said she saw the boys “hit” and “kick” their victim as he lay on the ground.

It was not “unusual” for the boy who admitted to possessing the knife to have a machete as he carried it “often”, she claimed.

Jonathan Roe, Senior Crown Prosecutor for the CPS West Midlands, said: “Shawn Seesahai was an incredibly brave young man who had a world of opportunity at his feet.

“Shawn suffered traumatic injuries after being mercilessly targeted by defendants obsessed with violence and roaming the streets looking for a potential victim.

“This was a horrific and random act of brutality, carried out by two 12-year-olds who should not have spent their time arming themselves with machetes and preparing to kill themselves.

“Today’s sentencing should send a clear message to those who consider it appropriate to arm themselves with knives or blades: no matter how you try to justify it, you will face the consequences of your actions.

“Our thoughts are with Shawn’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
