Children and teenagers walk a kilometer as PSP during Cadet Camp

Becoming a state police officer requires discipline, training and perseverance.

Children aged 12 to 15 in the region had the opportunity to learn these skills from the people who put them to work in the field every day.

Camp Cadet provided children with the opportunity to learn on the job from the men and women of the Pennsylvania State Police, putting them in close contact with special response teams, search teams and helicopter rescue and more specialized members of the force.

The program was designed to engage interested children in informative activities, not as a punishment or remedial program.

“So today, some of the things they're going to do – traffic stops and speed cameras and seeing what it's like to do what we do on the road. They are going to do a little physical activity, we ran this morning. I'm sure they'll do a lot of push-ups throughout the day if they misbehave or talk too much. We're going to have the K-9 unit, the helicopter is coming. Lots of team building stuff, competitions, tug of war competitions, kickball, whiffle ball, cool things like that,” said Cindy Schick, a community service major. officer of Troop E.

This week of hard work is rewarded with a graduation ceremony on Friday June 14.
