Child trafficking racket: baby trafficking unravels and three more infants are saved | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: The city police on Wednesday rescued three more infants sold to childless couples by agents of an inter-state child trafficking ring that was busted on Tuesday. So far, 14 children have been rescued from different parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Police suspect that the gang also had “buyers” outside the two Telugu-speaking states. Among the three children rescued during the latest crackdown, two were found in Bapatla (AP) and one in Karimnagar. “At this time, we only have information on children trafficked and sold in the two states. But as one of the accused, Mudavath Sharada, arrested from Vijayawada, is also involved in a similar case registered in Mumbai, we are checking whether children were also sold in Maharashtra or any other state,” a told TOI Mediaplly police officer. “After the news broke, the Mumbai Police also contacted us for details of the case,” he added. So far, 11 people have been arrested and booked for trafficking infants through 'suppliers' in Delhi and Pune. Police have now started the process of naming the couples who bought the children from the agents, as accused. The infants were sold for up to Rs 6 lakh. “We saved these children from 13 couples and a single mother. They too will now face legal action. We are yet to finalize the sections (of the IPC and/or the JJ Act) under which they will be booked,” the officer said, adding that the hunt for “vendors” was on. Although the Police suspect that the “suppliers” bought most of these children from poor parents, they have not ruled out the possibility of kidnapping. “This can be verified once we catch them. The search for biological parents. will also be possible later,” the officer added.
