Child and adults killed by train in Springfield identified

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Virginia (DC News Now) — Police have identified a man, woman and child who died after a train struck them in Springfield Wednesday.

The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) said Diego Arriaza, 28, of Annandale, Yeraldin Pardo, 28, of Lincolnia, and Pardo's 8-year-old child were on elevated train tracks in the 7500 block of Accotink Park Rd. when they encountered a moving freight train. Detectives believe the train hit Arriaza and Pardo and her child fell from the bridge. All three died there.

FCPD said investigators do not believe speed or alcohol were factors attributable to the engineer. They were investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the incident in those who died.
