Chicago woman arrested after early morning high-speed chase in Missouri

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A Chicago woman is behind bars after an early morning high-speed chase ended in a collision near Belton, Missouri.

Around 12:40 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, the Cass County, Mo., Sheriff's Office said deputies noticed a driver committing a lane violation while heading north on the I-49 near 155th Street in Belton.

The sheriff's office said the driver of a silver Lincoln MKZ with Kansas license plates, later identified as Christian L. Johnson, 30, of Chicago, refused to stop after an attempted traffic control. Instead, the vehicle fled the scene.

Law enforcement officials said the Johnson left Highway 150 and eventually made a U-turn onto southbound I-49, where it continued to accelerate. Eventually, she made an abrupt lane change and exited onto 155th Street where she crossed a concrete median and struck a curb and a light pole which disabled the car.

The sheriff's office said that's when Johnson broke free and attempted to run south on N. Scott Ave. She was arrested after a brief foot chase.

Johnson was booked into the Cass Co. Jail on charges of resisting arrest and felony escape or attempted escape while under arrest. As of Thursday, she remains behind bars on $25,000 cash-only bail.
