Chicago stabbing: Man stabbed and seriously injured outside CTA Chatham 79th Street Red Line station, police say

A stabbing in Chicago left a man critically injured outside the CTA Chatham 79th Street Red Line station on Wednesday, police said.

CHICAGO (WLS) — CTA Red Line trains temporarily bypassed the 79th Street stop in Chatham Wednesday afternoon as police investigate a stabbing near the station.

A man was seriously injured during an altercation around 4 p.m. in the 0-100 block of West 79th Street, Chicago police said.

A 32-year-old man was injured in the hand by a 23-year-old woman with a sharp object, police said.

The man was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition.

The woman was taken into custody, police said. The police are continuing their investigation.

CTA officials announced the station bypass on social media. Red Line trains have since resumed normal operations.

No further information was immediately available.
