Police said the victim got into a verbal altercation with an unknown suspect outside when the suspect pulled out a gun and began shooting at the victim.

The victim was shot in the left shoulder and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, police said.

Marcus Simonini said he was the one who called 911 after the suspected shooter approached him, saying someone took his jumper cables before trying to get into the garage from the other side from the street.

“I just said, 'I don't know anything about what you're looking for, sir, have a good day,' and he just said, 'It's going to break out here sometime today,'” Simonini said. “That's when I called the Chicago Police and got them on the line and at that point, no more than 20 seconds later, I heard gunshots ring out in the street They heard it and said, 'Please stay in your vehicle.' '”

At one point, a SWAT team was seen entering the parking lot next to Whole Foods looking for the shooter. But Chicago police have since confirmed they emptied the garage.

A firearm was found at the scene, but no one is in custody, police said.
