The victim, a 43-year-old man, was arguing with three men he knew when police say the men attacked him.

“He’s my cousin, the one they beat,” Andres Salgado said. “I don't really know the whole story, but my cousin is a hard-working man…he has two children. His wife is a public school teacher.”

Police say the victim pulled out a handgun and fired shots, hitting all three alleged attackers. The owner holds a concealed carry permit.

“They tried to enter my cousin’s house,” Salgado said.

A 29-year-old man suffered five gunshot wounds to the torso and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said. A 22-year-old man was shot in the chest and transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition. A 55-year-old man was shot in the neck and is in critical condition at Illinois Masonic Hospital.

Police said the victim suffered blunt force trauma to the head and body and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

The victim's gun was found at the scene, police said.

“He’s a hard-working man, he doesn’t deserve this,” Salgado said. “Always with his kids, taking them to baseball, baseball practice, everything. His wife is a teacher. Very respectful family.”

The motive and circumstances of the attack remain under investigation by Area Five detectives.

No information has been released by police on possible criminal charges.
