Chestnut Hill Circle shooting: woman attending meal killed

Police said friends took the woman, whose name has not yet been released, to an area hospital, but police said she died there.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A family gathered to honor the memory of a loved one is mourning the loss of another after a 30-year-old woman died after being shot while attending a meal, announced the police.

According to DeKalb County Police, officers responded to calls of a person shot in the 2000 block of Chestnut Hill Circle Friday just after 7 p.m. The location is off Snapfinger Road just inside the perimeter near Interstate 20 in DeKalb County.

Police said when officers arrived on scene, they found a “large crowd” gathered at a home for a family member's meal. Witnesses, according to DeKalb police, told officers they heard gunfire at several homes where the victim was standing outside with the crowd. Somehow, police said, the victim was hit by the gunfire, but at this point it's unclear where the shooting came from.

Police said friends took the woman, whose name has not yet been released, to an area hospital, but police said she died there.

Detectives attended the scene to examine the area, but no further information, including details of a potential suspect, was released.

Police said the investigation into the woman's death remains ongoing.
