Chelsea make bid for Corinthians teenager Wesley Gassova

Chelsea have made a bid for Brazilian teenager Wesley Gassova, with Corinthians reportedly wanting £16.9million for the player.

The Blues have really targeted the South American market since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over in 2022, and they've acquired some of the continent's top talent.

The club have already signed Andrey Santos, Angelo Gabriel, Deivid Washington, Kendry Paez and Estevao Willian, while a deal for Argentina centre-back Aaron Anselmino is very close.

Chelsea make offer for Wesley

It appears the Blues have now identified their next South American target, with Foot Mercato reporting that the club have submitted a bid for 19-year-old winger Wesley.

The report adds that Premier League club West Ham have also made a bid for Wesley, with Corinthians wanting £16.9million for the teenager.

Foot Mercato reports that Wesley will leave Corinthians, and he also has interest from several clubs in France, including Nice, while Porto and Roma are also monitoring the situation.

Wesley could become the latest South American to join Chelsea.

Wesley is primarily a left winger, but he can also play on the right and as a second striker, but it is difficult to pinpoint where he would fit in at Chelsea.

He has already made 72 appearances for Corinthians to date, scoring seven goals and providing five assists, and is a product of the club's academy.

Wesley is knocking on the national team's door after being part of Brazil's provisional squad for the Copa America but was left out of the final squad.

At present, there is certainly no room in Chelsea's squad for the Brazilian, and if the Blues were to complete a deal, it appears they would just be hoarding talent at this stage.

Chelsea would be better off focusing on the first team, which has not enjoyed any success over the last two years, rather than continuing to sign players who may never play for the club.
