This afternoon the Sheriff's Office held a retirement ceremony for Major Lawrence Wright. Major Lawrence Wright retires after 40 years of service

The Chatham County Sheriff's Office says thanks and goodbye to one of its longtime deputies. The Sheriff's Office held a retirement ceremony for Maj. Lawrence Wright on Friday afternoon. The deputy, who officially marked 40 years with the office last month, was promoted to colonel ahead of his retirement. “I feel very honored, very, very humbled that the sheriff's office recognizes my presence here,” Wright said. “And it’s been a privilege for me to be here at the sheriff’s office for 40 years. It's a blessing. » Sheriff John Wilcher said Wright will be missed. “You know, you can't replace 40 years of experience, you know, so, again, like Mr. Rogers, it's a great day and it's a sad day,” Wilcher said. “A great day as he retires and a sad day as he leaves us.” Wright, whose last day of work was Friday, plans to spend time with his wife, daughters and grandchildren during his retirement.
