Chase in Wake County ends as suspect crashes into another car near Rolesville; US 401 north is closed near Zebulon Road

ROLESVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — A chase involving a Wake County deputy and a suspect ended when the suspect crashed into another car in northeast Wake County, north of Rolesville, Sunday evening , officials said.

The incident was reported around 10 p.m. when a Wake County Sheriff's Office deputy attempted to stop a driver on Interstate 540 near US 401/Louisburg Road in north Raleigh, according to a press release from the Wake County Sheriff's Office.

The driver refused to stop and a pursuit ensued north on US 401, with the suspect continuing through the Rolesville area.

Officers chased the suspect in the area of ​​US 401/Louisburg Road and NC 96/Zebulon Road when the driver crashed and struck another car.

Deputies and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol would not say whether anyone was injured in the crash, but an ambulance was dispatched to the scene.

Two lanes of northbound U.S. 401 were quickly closed near NC 96, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation and Wake County officials. The area is about a half-mile from the Wake County-Franklin County line.

“This is an active investigation and there is no additional information at this time,” Wake County officials said in the news release.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol will investigate the crash, according to a spokeswoman for the Wake County Sheriff's Office.
