Charlottesville shooting suspect surrenders

The Charlottesville man accused of shooting and seriously injuring an 18-year-old girl in the Belmont neighborhood Thursday has turned himself in to police.

Herndon

City police said Travis William Herndon, 25, turned himself in shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday. He was arrested and charged without incident, police said.

Charlottesville officers were dispatched to a reported shooting in the 1300 block of Carlton Avenue at 12:06 a.m. Thursday.

“At the scene, officers found a victim, an 18-year-old woman, with a gunshot wound to the upper body in a vehicle that had struck a trailer,” police said in a statement released later in the day. “She was transported to the University of Virginia Medical Center where she is in stable condition with serious injuries.”

Evidence suggests the shooting was targeted, police said shortly after assessing the scene.
