Charlotte fentanyl dealer sentenced to more than 12 years in prison: DOJ

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Charlotte man has been sentenced to more than 12 years in prison for distributing fentanyl and methamphetamine, according to the United States Attorney's Office.

From July 2022 to October 2022, Chad Clay, 31, sold fentanyl and methamphetamine to an undercover agent in Charlotte, documents state.


In addition to the drugs, Clay sold the undercover agent several firearms, including a handgun that was allegedly stolen and a rifle with two high-capacity magazines.

Officials say Clay is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition due to prior convictions, including conspiracy to commit common law robbery and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury .

On March 16, 2023, Clay pleaded guilty:

  • 3 counts of distribution of fentanyl
  • Distribution of methamphetamine
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

On Monday, June 17, Clay was sentenced to 151 months in prison.

The Justice Department said Clay will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending transport to a designated federal Bureau of Prisons facility.
