Charlotte convicted of felon found with gun, sentenced to nearly 4 years in prison

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A convicted felon from Charlotte has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison for possessing a firearm, according to the United States Attorney's Office.

On Monday, June 17, Ray Ervin, 35, was sentenced to 46 months in prison followed by two years of supervised release for possession of a firearm by a felon.


Court documents show that on December 12, 2022, officers saw Ervin while patrolling an area of ​​Charlotte that had received numerous calls related to criminal activity.

Officers attempted to stop Ervin's vehicle, but he was uncooperative. Ervin was later found hiding in a shed where he was arrested. Officers found a gun and a backpack containing fentanyl, methamphetamine and marijuana, officials said.

On August 8, 2023, Ervin pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He has previously been convicted of this in Georgia and South Carolina for kidnapping in which he is not allowed to have a firearm.

Authorities say Ervin is in federal custody and will be transferred to the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons upon designation of a federal facility.
