Charles County Sheriff's Office responds to concerns about party planners using residential properties for large-scale events – Southern Maryland News Net

On June 1, 2024, at 7:30 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's Office patrol officers responded to Inheritance Drive in Brandywine following reports of an unusually large party, complaints of traffic and disorderly behavior.

Upon arrival, officers observed approximately 200 cars parked on the street and in yards in the area. Hundreds of people, perhaps 600 to 800, were trying to attend a pool party at a single-family home. The party promoters rented the pool from the owner and advertised the location on various social media platforms.

The promoters' security personnel began shutting down the event after it became apparent there were too many people. CCSO officers assisted with traffic control. During the dispersal, one person was arrested for an assault that occurred as the event was ending.

CCSO recognizes concerns surrounding developers leasing residential properties in neighborhoods for large-scale events advertised over the Internet. This is a recurring problem nationwide.

However, solving this recurring problem requires more than a police response; this requires local and state legislation to effectively manage and/or regulate the use of residential properties for event promoters of extraordinary scale.

CCSO is working with county officials regarding this particular event and a future event that is currently being promoted and will continue to work with local officials and legislators to find long-term solutions that will protect neighborhoods and maintain public safety .
