A 19-year-old man has been charged with driving intoxicated after he rolled his pickup truck over, causing him and another teenager to be ejected and critically injured, near Woodstock in December.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office and Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded around 6:45 pm on December 13 to the 4900 block of Route 47 in unincorporated Woodstock for a vehicle crash with injuries.

The sheriff's office said at the time that an investigation showed a 2003 Ford truck was traveling northbound on Route 47 south of Allendale Road.

The Ford crossed into the southbound lane of traffic for unknown reasons.

The Ford exited the roadway into the ditch on the west side of the road and rolled over several times, the sheriff's office said.

The truck was heavily damaged and came to rest against a house. The house does not sustain any damage.

The two occupants, an 18-year-old Hebron man and a 19-year-old Richmond man, were ejected from the Ford, the sheriff's office said.

Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said both victims were unconscious and located nearby.

Both teenagers suffered critical, life-threatening injuries and two medical helicopters were called to the scene, Vucha said. The helicopters landed on Route 47.

The 18-year-old, who was a passenger, was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

The 19-year-old, who was the driver, was flown to Mercyhealth Javon Bea Hospital—Riverside in Rockford.

The sheriff's office remained on the scene conducting a crash investigation for several hours.

Route 47 was completely shut down for several hours for the investigation.

Court records show the driver, Nathan Madula, 19, of Richmond, was charged Wednesday with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence causing a crash involving bodily harm, consumption of liquor by a minor, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, improper traffic lane usage and driving without a seatbelt.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges that Madula was driving under the influence of alcohol when he caused the crash, which resulted in great bodily harm to his passenger, and that he is under the legal age of 21 to consume alcohol.

The complaint said Madula was also under the influence of THC and was driving too fast. He was not wearing a seatbelt, the complaint said.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit investigated the incident.

Madula is not yet in custody and an arrest warrant has been issued.
