Chapoth Bafel Gak Paul Deng identified as woman hit and killed on Stud Rd, Dandenong

A young woman killed in a suspected hit-and-run in Melbourne's southeast is being remembered as a loving mother of three young children.

Chapoth Bafel Gak Paul Deng, 29, was walking home from the shops on Friday, June 7, when she was hit by a car while crossing Stud Rd, Dandenong at around 9pm.

The impact threw Chapoth into the middle of the road where she was hit by a second car.

Chapoth was rushed to hospital but later died.

The mother of three was originally from Sudan but had lived in Australia since 2004.

Family members say they are in shock, with Chapoth's aunt describing the young mother as “beautiful inside and out.”

“She still had a life to live,” Mariya Ngung Deng told 7NEWS. “She should be here.”

On Sunday, a 21-year-old man attended Cranbourne police station and was taken into custody.

He was questioned but released pending further investigation.

No charges have been filed.

Police are calling on the driver of a third car, which passed immediately after the accident, and who may have additional information or dashboard camera footage.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
