Chaotic Memorial Day weekend on Jersey Shore leads to stabbings and curfew

Closed boardwalks, crowds running on a crowded boardwalk, increased police activity as well as a stabbing incident occurred over Memorial Day weekend at some of New Jersey's most popular beaches. Gunshots were also reported, but police confirmed that was not true.

A chaotic holiday weekend on the coast led to stricter enforcement of the curfew in Seaside Heights. Until Labor Day, a curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. will be in effect for all communities on Tom's River Barrier Island. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Wildwood declared a state of emergency Sunday night, closing the parkway for six hours. Authorities say there was a high volume of emergency calls that overwhelmed first responders.

Wildwood Mayor Ernie Troiano, Jr. issued a statement in support of the decision to declare a state of emergency. “Wildwood will not tolerate unruly, parentless children and we will not stand idly by while state laws tie the hands of police,” he said.

It happened Saturday night when a fight broke out. The victim is expected to be OK.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact police at 609-399-9111.
