Chandler man charged with alleged attempted murder of his parents

PHOENIX (AZFamille) — A Maricopa County grand jury indicted a 19-year-old man for allegedly trying to kill his parents at their Chandler home last month.

Jeremiah Estel Blair faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder. According to investigators, Blair told police he was “distraught about his upbringing” and was disappointed they survived the shooting.

“We can never truly know what drives a son to attempt to end the lives of the people who raised him, but we can certainly agree that it is a heinous act,” the prosecutor said. of Maricopa County, Rachel Mitchell, in a press release announcing the indictment. “Our job now is to hold him to account.”

The shooting happened in a neighborhood near Cooper and Chandler Heights roads on May 13. Around 5:30 a.m. that day, a woman called 911 to say she and her husband had been shot by their adult son.

Blair allegedly waited in the driveway for officers to arrive and surrendered.

During an interview with detectives after his arrest, court documents say Blair not only admitted to the shooting, but that he had been planning to kill his parents for years.

Blair allegedly set up a camera around 1 a.m. to record the crime, then waited for one of his parents to come downstairs to leave for work. He allegedly shot his father, who came down first, then ran upstairs and shot his mother as she came out of her bedroom.

Both were hospitalized with serious injuries, but their lives are not believed to be in danger.

Family members told police that Blair suffered from mental illness.

Blair is being held on a $750,000 secured appearance bond and his trial is scheduled for September.
