The jury agreed to impose the death penalty in the case, according to the Associated Press.

Daybell was convicted Thursday of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, grand larceny and insurance fraud in the deaths, NBC News reported.

He was charged in connection with the deaths of Lori Vallow Daybell's two youngest children, Joshua “JJ” Vallow, 7, and Tylee Ryan, 16, in September 2019, according to the AP. He was also charged in connection with the death of his first wife, Tammy Daybell, in October 2019.

Authorities found the bodies of Vallow Daybell's children, Tylee Ryan, 16, and Joshua Jaxon “JJ” Vallow, 7, buried on property owned by Chad Daybell a year after they were last seen in 2019. His first wife, Tammy Daybell died the same year the children disappeared.

Seventeen days after Tammy Daybell's death, Chad Daybell and Vallow Daybell were married, officials said.

Chad Daybell has pleaded not guilty to the charges. His lawyers argued there wasn't much evidence to link him to the murders. According to the AP, his lawyers tried to suggest that Vallow Daybell's brother, Alex Cox, was the one who did it.

Last year, a judge sentenced Vallow Daybell to three consecutive life terms after a jury found her guilty of killing Tylee and JJ and plotting to murder Tammy Daybell. She appealed her conviction to the Idaho Supreme Court, CNN reported.
