On Saturday, Daybell received the death penalty after jurors convicted him of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in the killings of his first wife, Tammy Daybell, and his children Joshua “JJ” Vallow, 7 years old. and Tylee Ryan, 16.

He was also convicted of insurance fraud and sentenced to 15 years in prison on each count.

The Tammy Douglas Daybell Foundation thanked “everyone who dedicated countless hours of work to get to where we are today: law enforcement, prosecutors, the media, and all of you who watched and listened to the trial and prayed for us.”

“We are grateful for the relationships we have created during this horrible time and for the support and love we have been able to give each other,” the foundation said in a statement released Saturday. “We can all begin to heal from the terrible losses we have suffered. We will miss Tammy every day of our lives, but we take comfort in knowing we will see her again.

Prosecutors had said during the trial that Daybell was someone who was fond of apocalyptic thoughts and called people “zombies” and “dark spirits.”

In June 2020, the children's bodies were found on Daybell's property. Authorities believe he hid them between September 2019 and June 2020.

Tammy Daybell had died in 2019, just weeks before Chad married his second wife, Lori Vallow.

Tammy's death had been ruled to be of natural causes until an autopsy revealed that she was killed by asphyxiation in a homicide.

Chad and Vallow were charged with murder and theft by deception in 2021, following the deaths of Vallow's two youngest children.

They were also charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and insurance fraud in connection with Tammy's death.

After being convicted the previous year, Vallow was sentenced to multiple life sentences without the possibility of parole.

The case began in 2019 when family members became concerned after they had not seen or spoken to the children, and police began searching for them in November.

Chad and Vallow were accused by authorities of lying to them and failing to assist in the investigation into the children's disappearance.

Joshua was adopted and had special needs. They initially told police he was in Arizona visiting a family friend, but police found that to be a lie.

The couple traveled to Hawaii and abruptly left Rexburg. After Vallow neglected to turn the children over to Idaho authorities, Hawaii police arrested her in February 2020.

According to court records, Tylee was burned alive in a fire pit and Joshua was buried in a pet cemetery.
