CBI team probes alleged UGC-NET paper leak attacked in Bihar village

Patna:

A Central Bureau of Investigation team, which visited Bihar to investigate the UGC NET paper leak case, was attacked by villagers in Nawada. Local police say villagers thought the team was fake. A complaint was filed against around 200 people. Only eight of them were named.

The assault was recorded on cellphone and those involved were identified based on the videos, police said. Four people were arrested.

A senior local police officer, Ambrish Rahul, said the team was in Kasiyadih village when they were attacked. The officials were rescued after local police arrived.

The team – four civil servants and a police officer – had gone looking for a person whose cell phone they were tracking. But the villagers beat up the officials, calling them fake. They also vandalized vehicles.

Faced with this unexpected attack, the team called the local police, who managed to calm the villagers.

The team carried out its investigation in the presence of local police. Two cell phones were seized based on their location.

CBI officials said that after investigation into the information contained in the phones, those involved in the paper leak would be arrested.

UGC-NET, through which students can choose a career in teaching in higher education institutions, was canceled earlier this week. The cancellation came a day after the test was held because it was suspected that the paper had leaked. The Center had announced that it suspected the integrity of the review may have been “compromised”.
