CATSKILL, N.Y. — A Greene County jury has convicted a Greene County woman of murder in the 2021 stabbing death of Scott Myers, the district attorney's office said Friday.

Carrie Weiser was found guilty of second-degree murder, a felony, on Thursday, June 27.

In a statement, Greene County District Attorney Joseph Stanzione called the case “very complicated.”

Authorities said that shortly before 12:30 a.m. on November 27, 2021, Weiser stabbed Myers in the left side of the neck. They said she then called 911 and was still in Myers' apartment when police arrived.

Police said Myers bled to death and was pronounced dead at the scene. Weiser was arrested shortly after.

“It was clear that the jury considered all of the evidence, which included photographs, video recordings, interviews, demonstrative evidence, etc.,” and “left no stone unturned before unanimously concluding that Carrie Weiser did, in fact, murder Scott Myers,” Stanzione said.

He said defense attorneys Danielle Neroni and William Roberts “led an aggressive defense in which they attacked virtually every witness and every piece of evidence. The defense then suggested several alternative theories about what happened, including 'Scott Myers committed suicide' and 'Carrie Weiser was drugged and drunk and, therefore, could not be held responsible for her actions because she was too drunk to form an 'intent to murder,' to 'she killed Scott Myers in self-defense while Myers was attempting to rape her.'”

The jury, according to the prosecutor, “examined each element of the crime and recognized that the prosecution, led by (Assistant District Attorney) Jennifer Sandleitner, not only proved the murder charge beyond a reasonable doubt, but also refuted beyond a reasonable doubt each of the defenses suggested by defense counsel.”

The case was prosecuted by Sandleitner and Assistant District Attorney Monica Kenny-Keff, with Judge Charles M. Tailleur presiding.

Weiser is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 27 and faces a sentence of 25 years to life in state prison.
